A new three-event Challenge Tour series will offer players aged over 40 the chance to compete for a place in the 2027 World Seniors Snooker Championship at Sheffield’s iconic Crucible Theatre.

World Seniors Snooker (WSS) has today announced the launch of an exciting new Challenge Tour, offering more competitive opportunities for players aged over 40 and a potential pathway to the 2027 World Seniors Snooker Championship.

The new Challenge Tour will feature three events – taking place across January, February and March 2027 at The Crucible Club in Reading, with the player finishing top of the ranking list earning a coveted place in April’s Golden Ticket event.

The winner of the Golden Ticket event will secure a place in the 2027 World Seniors Snooker Championship, giving Challenge Tour players the opportunity to fulfil their dream of competing on one of snooker’s most famous stages.

Challenge Tour Dates

The Challenge Tour has been specifically designed to provide additional competitive opportunities for players who may not yet be challenging at the very top of the World Seniors circuit. To ensure the series remains accessible to a wider range of competitors, entry will not be open to current professional World Snooker Tour (WST) players or anyone ranked inside the top 16 of the official WSS ranking list.

WSS Chairman Jason Francis said: “We are delighted to announce the launch of the Challenge Tour, which represents another important step in the continued growth and development of World Seniors Snooker.

“Our aim is to create more opportunities for players aged over 40 to enjoy competitive snooker, particularly those who may not currently be challenging at the very top end of our main seniors events. Across the three tournaments, players will compete for ranking points, with the number one ranked player earning a place in our Golden Ticket event in April. From there, they will have the opportunity to win their way through to the 2027 World Seniors Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre.

“The growth of the Seniors Tour, coupled with increased prize money, has seen unprecedented entry numbers across both our World Seniors Tour and Super Seniors events. We fully expect the Challenge Tour to attract strong interest from players competing on both circuits, as well as welcoming new faces looking to become part of the World Seniors family.

“Ultimately, this is about giving more people the opportunity to play competitive snooker, creating another exciting pathway through our events and offering someone the chance to realise their dream of playing at the Crucible.”

Entries Now Open

Entries for all three Challenge Tour events are now open via WPBSA SnookerScores, with a maximum of 64 players per event. With places expected to be in high demand, players are encouraged to secure their entries early.
